How did you get started blogging?
Blanda Eggenschwiler: I collaborated with Obey on an artist series for their clothing line's fall 2011 collection. It consisted of three T-shirt prints and  three matching jewelry pieces. Everyone at Obey that I got to know throughout the process is seriously awesome — just good people. I was thrilled when they asked me to start blogging for them this spring. I am by no means a professional blogger. It is just something fun that I do on the side.
What do you blog about?
I write about anything that I find interesting. I share impressions of my life. Sometimes the posts are more personal, other times more informational. I see so many of my friends involved in creative projects that the world needs to know about… It really never gets boring!
What work do you do outside of your blog?
I do graphic design and illustration and am involved in a few creative projects and collaborations. I also co-founded a company with two of my friends last year and we are working on a fashion line.
What inspires you?
People.

What do you like most about living in NYC?
NYC has an energy that I have never felt in any other city, like something big is about to happen at any given moment. It is an environment that makes me want to get out and do things, create something and work harder.
What are your favorite places to travel?
Besides Switzerland — where I am from — my favorite place for a vacation is Greece, hands down. My family has been going to the same small town on Crete for decades. Whenever I am there I turn off my phone and just relax and spend time with my family. I also like to travel to places I haven't been to yet. India, for example, is pretty high up on my list.

What’s your life motto?
Yesterday is over, tomorrow hasn’t arrived yet. All I have is right now so let’s make the best of it!
3 attributes you would use to describe yourself.
I don’t want to sound cliched but I would have to go with: curious, driven, and never-satisfied.
3 words which you would describe your art with.
Clean, subversive, feminine.
Which are your 3 favorite albums, songs or musicians right now?
Well, as far as current bands that I have on my headphones: Chief, The Black Keys, Caribou.
Because we know you like to cook, which are your 3 favorite dishes?
Caprese salad with basil, a good steak (medium rare) and then Tiramisu for dessert! With some espresso to top it off that would be the perfect meal!
What did it mean for you to be Art Director at the New York Times?
It was definitely an honor to get hired by the Times at such a young age, and was a great opportunity considering how soon after college it materialized. I’ll never forget my dad’s reaction when I told him. He had worked for newspapers for years and was through-the-roof about it. It’s always exciting to make your parents proud, you know?
How did you get your job so shortly after your studies?
Through one of my professors, who recommended me for the job shortly thereafter. It should be a lesson for design students out there: don’t waste time when you’re in school. In many ways it can be an audition for future work. Many people who teach design are also professionals, and they are often your best contacts when you get out of school.
How does it look a year later?
Well as much as I enjoyed the job at the Times, I have since broadened my horizons. I never want to be confined to a specific company or enterprise, so I’ve begun to focus more on freelance jobs and other avenues, which is how the OBEY line came about.
How would a day in New York look like if you could do anything at all?
Honestly, sometimes it’s best to get a break from all of the excitement and simply have a picnic in Central Park or grab dinner and a movie.
Do you follow any guidelines as an artist?
The most important guideline is always to trust your instincts. If you believe in your taste and your style, then you are your own best critic.
Any idols?
If you are asking about a specific person, then I would have to say Louise Fili. She merges pure expression with graphic design like nobody else.

Zo, nu hebben we weer wat bijgeleerd over Blanda. Ik denk dat Joe het wel fijn vind dat ze een artieste is, hij is zelf ook wel creatief. Ik denk dat op dat vlak hun karakters goed samengaan.

Stay tuned for more Jonas-news ! Eline xx
