Kevin: Being so young and being a part of this industry and this celebrity world, we surrounded ourselves with people that knew what we wanted and weren't trying to make us anything we weren't, so it was nice that we were able to stay true to ourselves.
Joe: I think there were definitely times where we worried about what people think about us.
Nick: I think there comes a point for everyone where they make the decision if they want to use their public profile to try and help other people out.
Kevin: Being a band that has a voice, we've always felt that it was important to give back. We always made sure we did that. Joe with the special olympics, Nick being a type one diabetic and doing a lot of things there, and myself with volunteerism. You know, each one of us has a different path that we've chosen with the charity work, but each one has its own goals we've set.
Nick: Every voice matters.
Joe: There are so many ways, whether if it's a bake sale or a carwash, it's really simple; something that you can do in your driveway.
Kevin: If you're able to give a little bit of yourself, I think it means a lot more to someone that doesn't have anything. You'll start to realize how blessed you are, and sometimes having those moments will allow you to really focus on what's important, and I think that's really helped us with all the things that we've done.

❝ I WANT TO TELL YOU ABOUT THE AWESOME EXPERIENCE I HAD. THIS SUMMER, I HAD THE AMAZING OPPORTUNITY TO TRAVEL TO KENYA WITH FREE THE CHILDREN. I GOT TO SEE FIRSTHAND WHAT A BEAUTIFUL AND INCREDIBLE CONTINENT AFRICA IS. TAKING A SAFARI AND SEEING THE WILDLIFE WAS AMAZING AND I EVEN LEARNED HOW TO THROW SPEARS WITH MASSAI WARRIORS. PRETTY AWESOME! I ALSO GOT TO EXPLORE THE VILLAGES, AND THAT’S WHERE I GOT MY HANDS DIRTY HELPING TO BUILD NEW CLASSROOMS. I REMEMBER IN ONE VILLAGE, I MET SOME OF THE STUDENTS- YOUNG GIRLS THAT WERE SO EXCITED ABOUT LEARNING, THEY WANTED TO STUDY ALL NIGHT, SO THEIR TEACHER SAID, “HOW ABOUT YOU CAN STUDY UNTIL 10 PM.” I COULD NEVER EVEN SIT IN A CLASSROOM FOR LONGER THAN FIVE MINUTES, BUT THESE YOUNG WOMEN WERE ABLE TO LEARN FOR HOURS, THEY LOVED IT. AND THEN I SAW THE PARENTS OF THOSE YOUNG GIRLS AND THEY WERE SO PROUD. THEY NEVER GOT A CHANCE TO LEARN MATH OR SCIENCE, AND NOW THEIR KIDS WERE GETTING A BETTER EDUCATION THAN THEY COULD EVER DREAM OF. AND THAT MEANS BETTER OPPORTUNITIES! ❞ Joe over zijn trip naar Kenya
